Sarah Burton's last show for Alexander McQueen, where she worked for 26 years, was impressive - opened by Kaia Gerber, closed by Naomi Campbell. At the end, the audience was on its feet applauding the designer.
Burton's stunning latest collection, called "ANATOMY II" , is inspired by "female anatomy, Queen Elizabeth I, the blood-red rose and Magdalena Abakanowicz - a transgressive and highly creative artist who refuses to compromise her vision," the designer explains in the presentation notes.
These themes were reflected in the dramatic prints and embellishments on the knitwear, leather dresses, corsets and cut-out details on the suits and dresses. The colour palette consisted of black, white and blood red with splashes of metallic gold. There was fringing, exquisite embroidery and several red carpet worthy gowns that will go down in the history of the house.
The show was dedicated to the memory of Lee Alexander McQueen, "whose desire was always to empower women," she added, as well as to the "passion, talent and loyalty" of his team.
