Angelina's sense of classic
For the past three months, Angelina Jolie has been the star of 50 Shades of Beige. At the end of August, she wore the colour to the Venice Film Festival 2024 with an oriental look on the Tom Ford, an exquisite symphony of drapes by Tamara Ralph and a short-sleeved trench by Dior, and in early September at the Telluride Film Festival, where we saw her in a long knit dress with matching bolero by Brunello Cucinelli. More recently, in late October, she opted for a champagne-coloured gown by her Atelier Jolie brand to attend the AFI Festival in Los Angeles. So much for those who claim that beige is a boring shade, a colour compromise resorted to by those who dare not really wear colour.Beige is the favorite color of rich women the world over, synonymous with old-fashioned classicism, comfort and stress-free living. However, in the case of Angelina Jolie, a woman who has been a 'goodwill ambassador' for the United Nations Refugee Agency and who now runs a social fashion brand working with humanitarian organisations, the suspicion arises that her enthusiasm for neutral tones should be interpreted as a subtle reference to the need for fashion to work in harmony with nature, following the principles of sustainability and responsibility.

On Monday, November 11, in New York, the actress attended the screening of "Maria," Pablo Larraín's biopic of Maria Callas, in which she plays the lead role wearing a black velvet dress over which she chose to wear a very classic beige trench coat. Definitely an unconventional stylistic decision - wearing a typical daytime outerwear over an evening gown, especially considering that the latter was long enough to be clearly visible under the coat and create a strong contrasting effect not only in terms of colour. In fact, the trench coat occupied such an important place in the look that the photos showing Angelina Jolie's arrival could have looked like they were from a Burberry campaign. Isn't it about time the iconic British fashion house's creative director Daniel Lee welcomed Angelina Jolie into his ranks? It's true that Angelina wasn't born in rainy Albion, but in sunny Southern California, but her look nonetheless has the same characteristics that are associated with so-called "heritage clothes," i.e. clothes designed to last, both in terms of style - because they're never really fashionable and therefore never go out of style - and in terms of the quality of materials. An interesting approach at a time when most celebrities seem to be oriented towards fashion that lives exclusively in the present.
